The health of Knew Health Medical Cost Sharing Members is always our top priority. As new cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) continue to appear throughout the United States, we want you to know that Team Knew Health is here to help.

The CDC reports that for most people, contracting COVID-19 may result in mild cold-like symptoms. In some cases, it may result in more serious symptoms including respiratory illness.

At present, you are far more likely to contract inuenza or the common cold than COVID-19. Inuenza is currently very active. The regular cold season typically peaks in March/April and again in September.

Still, it is important to take the situation seriously. Take intentional preventative measures to protect yourself and those you may come into contact with. There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19. A good goal is to minimize exposure to all respiratory viruses and maintain healthy lifestyle practices this season.

The Knew Health Medical Cost Sharing Community prides itself on lifting one another up when the going gets rough. We realize that COVID-19 has created fear and confusion for many people. Please know we are here
to answer questions and help you navigate your care for this or any other illness.

If You Have Symptoms

  • Call first. Call your doctor’s office if you have a fever and cough and know that COVID-19 is in your area. You may also consult with a physician through your telemedicine service.
  • Stay home. Unless seeking medical help, do not leave your home. This is the easiest way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other viruses.
  • Stay informed. The CDC is the best resource to stay up-to-date. For more information, see CDC guidance on “What to do when sick with COVID-19?”

Prevention Tips

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Knew Health’s Chief Medical Officer recommend the following:
Wash hands frequently and for a minimum of 20 seconds with warm
water and soap. Use hand sanitizer often, particularly after visiting heavily trafficked areas (subways, trains, busses, etc).

  • Avoid shaking hands.
  • Do not share food or drinks.
  • Avoid touching your face with your hands as much as possible. People
touch their faces an average of 200 times per day.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Wear a mask only if you are sick and near others or immunocompromised. (Wearing a facemask if you are healthy is not recommended.)
  • Overall, this new virus provides a good reminder to care for your health: sleep well, moderate your stress, eat healthy foods (lots of plants if you can), and exercise regularly.
